Here's the assignment from Crown Princess for this week:
Music plays a vital role in most of our lives. It is everywhere. I want to hear the ONE song that is you. The song that whenever it is heard, you smile. I am not looking for the soundtrack of your life, just that one song. Your friends hear it and think of you. You can post the video, the lyrics, the wav file. However you want to post it is great.
At first, I was at a loss.... Today, while trying to find something that wouldn't tax a flu ravaged body (yeah, that vaccine didn't get it this year....), I found the song. I was introduced to the Indigo Girls by someone who took my heart and didn't quite give it back(OK, I did give my heart to him, but it felt like it was stolen). In hindsight, I should have known better than to have trusted. Regardless, this song makes me both laugh and cry. For me it carries the emotion of that love, the love lost, but also hope for a life's path that isn't straight. The chorus of this song says it for me: " up on the watershed standing at the fork in the road, you can stand there and agonize till your agony's your heaviest load. You'll never fly as the crow flies get used to a country mile. When you're learning to face the path at your pace every choice is worth your while." It's true -- the agony of indecision can be the most burdensome. My life has not followed the path that I planned, but in the end, I think that what I do now is my calling.
I found this picture montage on YouTube with the song as background music. These aren't my pictures...
Watershed
thought i knew my mind
like the back of my hand
the gold and the rainbow
but nothing panned out as i planned
and they say only milk and honey's
gonna make your soul satisfied
well i better learn how to swim
cause the crossing is chilly and wide
twisted guardrails on the highway
broken glass on the cement
a ghost of someone's tragedy
how recklessly my time has been spent
they say that it's never too late
but you don't, you don't get any younger
well i better learn how to starve the emptiness
and feed the hunger
up on the watershed
standing at the fork in the road
you can stand there and agonize
till your agony's your heaviest load
you'll never fly as the crow flies
get used to a country mile
when you're learning to face
the path at your pace
every choice is worth your while
and there's always retrospect
(when you're looking back)
to light a clearer path
every five years or so i look back on my life
and i have a good laugh
you start at the top
go full circle round
catch a breeze
take a spill
but ending up where i started again
makes me wanna stand still
up on the watershed
standing at the fork in the road
you can stand there and agonize
till your agony's your heaviest load
you'll never fly as the crow flies
get used to a country mile
when you're learning to face
the path at your pace
every choice is worth your while
stepping on a crack
breaking up and looking back
til every tree limb overhead just seems to sit and wait
til every step you take becomes a twist of fate
up on the watershed
standing at the fork in the road
you can stand there and agonize
till your agony's your heaviest load
you'll never fly as the crow flies
get used to a country mile
when you're learning to face
the path at your pace
every choice is worth your while
up on the watershed
standing at the fork in the road
you can stand there and agonize
till your agony's your heaviest load
you'll never fly as the crow flies
get used to a country mile
when you're learning to face
the path at your pace
every choice is worth your while
and when you're learning to face
the path at your pace
every choice is worth your while
