Fun Monday

AOJ and the Lurchers is the host of this week's Fun Monday.

The assignment: Continuing in the spirit of "being interested in people", I would like to know, or see, what's on, in or under your bedside table! So open those draws and bare your soul to us! Is there anything special there that has a story or a memory that you can tell us about? Books that you keep there to delve into from time to time? Trinkets that you don't know where else to put? Let's see!

Before signing up for this one, I made certain that there was nothing too horrible on my bedside table. A brief look suggested that all was A-OK so I signed up.

As you can see – not a whole lot going on. I’m a person who spent far too long in the Ivory Towers of Academia (read: paying for the privilege of working like a slave.....). Although I have been out in the “real” world for over 5 years, I still haven’t gotten around to decorating my bedroom. As a matter of fact, I just de-decorated one corner last weekend, removing some of the furniture that screamed "this was bought by a poor student with no money and no sense of fashion!". When the furniture was removed, I had no plans for what to put in it's place, so I now have a big empty hole ....I'm thinking a few more dog beds may be all that it needs (btw, the basket next to the bedside table has dog toys ).

Back to the bedside table: it was given to me by my neighbor’s in Dallas. I miss those people so much. The bedside table is one of only two “real” pieces of furniture in the bedroom (the bed is on a frame but has not head board/foot board so that is “fake” furniture; someday, I will make it "real").

On top of the table is a lamp. I LOVE this lamp. I found it on sale for $17 at Home Depot. If I were to be blessed with some great home decorating makeover extravaganza, the lamp would have to stay. No my decorating style is not the British Indies, but I love this lamp. Next to that is the requisite alarm clock and phone.

Under the table is a book shelf. I haven’t looked at the books on that shelf in ages…maybe I should have. I have read 2/3 of them and totally forgotten the other 1/3. In case anyone can make out the titles....the 2nd book from the left was given to me by a financial "advisor" (I use that term very loosely), whom I fired about 2 months later. Based on the adequacy of his "advice", I would not recommend that book to anyone. The drawer below the shelf is empty except for an old backgammon game and a broken whippet statue.

Although Insomnia and I are well acquainted, when I can't sleep at night, I tend to get up and watch TV or read in the living room. I would never want to be accused of interrupting the sleep of my whippets! Perhaps, I need to check out some of those books at my bedside table.

Your lamp is very nice. I have been trying to read titles of the books on peoples' nightstands to no avail. Our bed was on a frame until we inherited a brass headboard from my parents.

Your lamp is lovely and I think your dogs are poor orphans, they have nothing to play with, lol !

your post made me laugh. i remember after i bought my first house it never occurred to me that i could decorate it...i'd lived in rental for so long i was used to just enduring whatever i had.

until my nephew came to visit. he looked around and he said, "you live like a college student!"

and that inpsired me to rip up the carpeting, paint the walls, and have a little fun.

your table is entirely too neat, by the way.

I agree - keep the lamp! It looks great and it's probably hard to knock over (always a plus on a bedside table).

That lamp is gorgeous!

My bed has no headboard or footboard either. I keep telling myself it would just be one more piece of furniture to move since I am a renter. I will buy a proper bed once I settle in my own house someday.

The beaded lampshade is really lovely, and the little table is pretty.

I think perhaps your dogs are a bit spoiled. Am I right?

I also love your lamp! and the price is even better!

We have baskets of dog toys in every room in our house. Do the dogs use them? No, they would rather eat/drag/tug 0'war with the towels!

Definitely a lamp worth holding onto...but I'm freaking out about the dog toys! Do you have to go all around the house, picking them up at night? WOW! My dog would FREAK! And they would all be in itty-bitty pieces in about five minutes.

You have a basket of toys as we do, but the basket is mostly empty as we are always finding the toys everywhere else, but in the basket. also great buy at HD. I am only allowed to go there when I leave my wallet at home. I recently found my HD card in someone else's drawer in HER office.... I got it back. Noticed the medical book too. Those things are always so thick...
